Rachel and Alon make everything in-house, know everyone’s name and once sheltered me for two hours when I put out my trash wearing pajamas and left my keys on the other side of the door. If you’re familiar with Flickr, the tag for the conference will be “ima2007.” If you aren’t, first of all make sure you show up on Thursday to Social Media 101 and 201, and Andy Carvin of NPR and I will show you many things.

In the meantime, though, sign up for a free account to upload and share photos through Flickr here. Their helpdesk is vast, deep and well thought out, but when you get to the point where you’re asked to “tag” a photo, tag it “ima2007.”

Tags represent one of the basic constructs of social media. Consider the metaphor: as you would knock out a bear and clip something to it to follow its movements in the wild, so can we mark photographs and blog post (and links) before releasing them into the internet.

In this case, if you upload your pictures of the conference to Flickr and tag them “ima2007,” I can search for that tag on Flickr, find your pictures and feature them on the blog. Or, for a more germane example, check out the way KUT in Austin features Flickr pictures tagged “Austin” on its homepage.

Consider a snapshot of the week’s weather, captured this very morning on my kitchen table. Balmy. My coat isn’t even all the way zipped up.
